Nine people are running for vice president, the second highest position in the country.
the Election Commission released the official list earlier this year.
Those in the running include Representative Lito Atienza (Buhay Party List), Former MP Walden Bello, Radio Commentator Rizalito David, Economist Manny SD Lopez, Doctor Willie Ong, Senator Kiko Pangilinan, Attorney Carlos Serapio and the president of the Senate Tito Sotto III.
According to the 1987 Constitution, an elected vice-president, with a six-year term, is “charged with assuming the presidency in the event of the death, invalidity or resignation of the president in office”.
The constitution also stated that the vice president can simultaneously assume a cabinet position if a president offers an office.
“The vice president will become a secretary in conjunction with the office of vice president”, the law added.
