At least 228 probable childhood hepatitis cases so far: WHO

A spokesperson for the World Health Organization said Tuesday it had received reports of at least 228 probable cases of infantile hepatitis with dozens more under investigation.

“As of May 1, at least 228 probable cases have been reported to WHO from 20 countries with over 50 additional cases under investigation,” WHO’s Tarik Jasarevic told a press conference in Geneva.

Health authorities around the world are investigating a mysterious rise in severe cases of hepatitis – inflammation of the liver – in young children which has resulted in at least one death.
