University of Perpetual Help System DALTA head coach Sandy Rieta, coaching his second game in the seniors ranks, can finally heave a sigh of relief as the Lady Altas got into the win column with a sweep of Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Friday.
Following a 26-24, 25-18, 25-19 win over the Lady Knights, Rieta quipped: ‘Masayang-masaya, pwede nang ngumiti.’
Perpetual struggled to open their campaign on a winning note, absorbing a 25-23, 25-19, 25-16 drubbing at the hands of Lyceum of the Philippines University last Sunday.
Eager to recover from that straight-sets setback, the Lady Altas got down to business against Letran, who went down to 0-2 hole, with Mary Rhose Dapol and Charmaine Ocado leading the way.
Dapol, a sophomore open hiiter, churned out 15 points to go along with 12 digs while Ocado chipped in 12 markers as Lyceum now holds a 1-1 win-loss card, forging four-way tie with San Sebastian College-Recoletos, Mapua University, and Lyceum.
“Ilang araw na akong suplado sa kanila eh kasi nga natalo tapos medyo ‘di pa masyadong maganda ‘yung laro nila nung first game, siguro gawa ng first game after ng walang mga laro,” shared Rieta.
Dapol, for her part, was glad she was able to bounce back from an off game against the Lady Pirates where she racked up just one point.
“Nag-enjoy ako nung nasa court ako and ‘yung sinasabi ni coach na relax niyo lang ‘yung utak niyo pero focused pa rin sa ginagawa niyo,” Dapol said.
“Ayon ‘yung tinatak ko sa utak ko then ine-enjoy ko kada point. Napakasaya ko po dahil nakabawi from that game kasi nung LPU game, talagang off ako.”
