What is a Trend? Trend is a change in behaviour, fad is a temporary change that loses steam very soon. We often struggle to distinguish between the two. Many times, we mistake a fad for trend and drive down the wrong road.

A trend takes time to gather steam. The longer we wait, the more accurate we can be in isolating the trends. However, the challenge is in identifying it at its infancy, and leveraging on it before the world catches on.

With that out of the way, let us jump into 3 trends I believe will start to scale in 2022.

1) Video Commerce will be the buzz word:

Video Commerce is still at a very nascent stage. It is predicted to grow by over 150% in the next 4 years. The foundation for this has already been laid with platforms like Trell, Roposo, Sharechat betting heavily on this space.

2) Technology will be the new Glamour:

Influencer marketing, smart posts on social, videos that go viral… These were the things that were glamorous not too long ago. Layering technology on media will be the next big thing. The recent Diwali campaign done by Mondelez where Shah Rukh Khan advertised for individual local stores is just a small indication of things to come.

3) Meta… first mover advantage:

Facebook made a lot of noise recently by renaming themselves Meta. Right now, it is still unclear what this will entail for brands. However, we will have brands that will make early moves in the metaverse, creating a lot of buzz.
