Prannoy will now play the winner of Rasmus Gemke of Denmark or Brice Levredez of FRANCE.

Sameer Verma lose: India’s woes at Indonesia Open Badminton is continuing. Sameer Verma lost to World No. 3 Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia in completely one-sided fashion. Verma was defeated 10-21, 13-21. Later in the day HS Prannoy will play Angus Ng Ka Long for a place in QUARTERFINALS.

Men’s Singles 

World No.9 Lakshya Sen led the men’s draw from the Indian side as he was seeded eighth in the tournament. Lakshya however suffered a humiliating first round defeat at the hands of fellow compatriot HS Prannoy in the first round.

Lakshya Sen, Prannoy and Srikanth were placed in the same quarter. Following Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth too suffered a first round defeat as he went down in straight sets against France’s Brice Leverdez. The other Indian player in the men’s singles who crashed out from the first round was Sai Praneeth as he was defeated by Denmark’s Hans-Kristian Vittinghus in straight sets.

The other Indians in the men’s singles draw included Sameer Verma, who started the tournament on a positive with a straight set victory over France’s  Thomas Rouxel in the first round. However, he suffered a second round exit as he went down in straight sets against World No.5 Lee Zii Jia.

Meanwhile, Parupalli Kashyap, who was about to face Sameer Verma in the first round  withdrew from the tournament.

Men’s Doubles

In men’s doubles India’s top doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty withdrew from the tournament at the last moment. They were seeded seventh in the tournament. They would have faced South Korea’s Choi Sol-gyu and Kim Won-ho in the first round.

Krishnaprasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala too opted not to participate in the tournament. They were about to face second seeded Indonesian pair Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in the opening round.

India’s Manu Attri-Suneeth Reddy bowed out in the in the first round, while MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila faced second round exit.

Doubles draw

In women’s doubles, Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddydefeated Indo-American duo of Srivedya Gurazada and Ishika Jaiswal in the opening round. However their cmpaign came to an end as they lost in straight sets against top seed Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan.

Meanwhile, Treesa Jolly and Gaytri Gopichand rdecided to skip the event. Ashwini Bhat and Shikha Gautam meanwhile were ousted from the first round after losing against China’s Zhang Shuxian and Zheng Yu in the first round. Haritha Harinarayanan and Ashna Roy too bowed out from the first round.

Mixed Doubles 

India’s mixed doubles pair Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto were the only mixed doubles duo from Indian in the tournament and their campaign came to an end in the first round as they were defeated by Hong Kong’s Chang Tak Ching and Ng Wing Yung. They are the only Indian pair in the competition.
