Elon Musk said Tuesday he would reverse TwitterThe ban on former President Donald Trump if his takeover goes through.

“Permanent bans should be extremely rare and really reserved for accounts that are bots, or scam, spam accounts … I think it was incorrect to ban Donald Trump,” Musk told Conference on the future of the car by FT Live. “I think it was a mistake, because it alienated a large part of the country and in the end it didn’t lead Donald Trump to have no say.”

“I would like to lift the permanent ban,” added Musk. “I don’t own Twitter yet. So that’s not going to happen for sure, why what if I don’t own Twitter?”

Twitter permanently suspended Trump from the platform in January 2021 following the attack by his supporters on the United States Capitol. The company said it made the decision after the January 6 uprising “due to the risk of further incitement to violence.” Trump at the time had more than 80 million followers on the platform.

But once Musk announced that he was interested in taking over the company in part to make it a platform for free speech, questions arose as to whether he would invite Trump to return. trump said last month he would not have returned to the company if he had had the chance.

“No, I’m not going back to Twitter,” Trump told CNBC’s Joe Kernen.

“I’ll be on Truth Social within the week. It’s on schedule. We have a lot of people signed up. I like Elon Musk. I like him a lot. He’s an excellent guy. We did a lot for Twitter when I was in the White House. I was disappointed with the way he was. in which I was treated by Twitter. I will not return to Twitter, “he said.
