Erling Haaland is close to completing his move to Manchester City.

Sources in Belgium said so Sky Sports News that Haaland completed a medical examination at the Hospital Erasme in Brussels on Monday.

According to Sky Germany, the striker has told Borussia Dortmund that he will leave the club at the end of the season. The termination clause of his contract is 75 million euros.

Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano informed Dortmund manager Hans-Joachim Watzke last week that City are ready to activate the striker’s release clause.

The clause stipulates that Haaland’s transfer fee will have to be paid in one payment, unlike many other major transfers that occur across multiple installations.

Some details have yet to be finalized for the deal which is expected to be announced by the end of the week.

Haaland has scored 85 goals in 88 games for Dortmund since joining RB Salzburg in January 2020. Dortmund’s last game of the season is Saturday’s home game against Hertha Berlin.

Pep Guardiola’s side have been leading the way to sign the 21-year-old and his release clause means Borussia Dortmund have resigned themselves to losing the striker this summer. The € 75 million fee – which equates to £ 62 million – for Haaland is widely regarded as below market value.

Asked about the club’s interest in the Norwegian striker last month, Guardiola replied: “[I have] no answer to your question.

“I have no worries or business in my head right now to think about what will happen in this club next season.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes Haaland’s deal “will set new heights” in the transfer market.

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports News, he said: “I signed a new contract knowing that City would not stop developing. It is not up to City to define whether we can be happy or not, it is about us and what we can do with it.

“You have so many opportunities and so many different ways to win a football match, and we only have to find one. It is obviously possible and we can do it.

“We will face City two, three – with the cups, the Champions League – five, six times perhaps a year but not more often than everything else.

“If Erling Haaland goes there, he won’t weaken them, absolutely not. I think there has been enough talk about this transfer. I know there is a lot of talk about money out there, but this transfer will set new levels, let me tell you like this.”

City have often played without a recognized striker this season following the exit of club scorer Sergio Aguero at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Asked if his team needs the number nine, Guardiola said: “We are playing with good strikers this season, so I don’t know what will happen in the future. It’s next season, so I won’t speak. [about it]. “
