Jethro Lazenby, son of singer Nick Cave, who died aged 31

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) – Australian singer-songwriter Nick Cave has confirmed the death of his son Jethro Lazenby at the age of 31.

“With great sadness, I can confirm that my son, Jethro, is dead,” rock band frontman Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds said Tuesday.

“We would be grateful for the family’s privacy right now,” Cave added.

Model, rapper, actor and photographer, Lazenby was the son of Cave with model Beau Lazenby and was born in Melbourne in 1991.

He was the eldest of Cave’s four children, all boys.

One of Cave’s twin children with his current wife, Susie Cave, died in an accidental fall from a cliff near Brighton, England in 2015. Arthur Cave had taken the psychedelic drug LSD before falling at the age of 15. years.

Nick Cave confirmed his son’s death on Tuesday.

Jethro Lazenby, who used the name Jethro Cave to help her modeling career, was found dead the day after being released from prison last week.

Lazenby’s body was discovered in a Melbourne motel on Friday afternoon, according to a police statement.

A medical examiner will determine the cause of his death. There were no indications that he was a victim of a crime, police said.

She was in custody shortly after assaulting her mother during an argument at her Melbourne home on March 7 and leaving her bruised and bleeding, the Melbourne Herald Sun newspaper reported.

He pleaded guilty to one charge of unlawful assault and violation of court orders. On Thursday he was released from a custody on bail, the newspaper reported.

A magistrate ordered him to undergo treatment for substance abuse and to avoid contact with his mother for two years. He was due to return to court in June to be convicted of the assault and stealing from a convenience store.

Lazenby was jailed in 2018 for assaulting a girl.

Last month, his attorney told a magistrate that his client had a long-standing diagnosis of schizophrenia.

Lazenby told the London Evening Standard newspaper in 2012 that she was 7 or 8 when she first met her famous father. Cave told British newspaper The Guardian in 2008 that he would always regret her lack of contact with his early childhood son.

“But now I have a great relationship with him,” Cave said. “It was difficult at the time, but in the end it turned out to be fantastic.”

Lazenby leaves a younger half-brother, Luke Cave, also born in 1991. The second son of the musician, a few days younger than his first, was born in Brazil to his then wife Viviane Carneiro, a Brazilian fashion designer and journalist. Lazenby is also survived by Arthur’s twin brother Earl Cave. The twins were born in 2000.
