Nomvethe makes a veiled shot at Mokwena, says the Sundowns have all the best players

Siyabonga Nomvethe believes the scales are in favor of the Mamelodi Sundowns to continue their dominance in the DStv Premiership, stating that Chloorkop’s team has 75% of the best players in the league.

The AmaZulu assistant coach said in response to the question about Rulani Mokwena’s suggestion that the Sundowns’ failure in Caf Champions League was due to a lack of local competition.

“The other teams will eventually catch up with the delay, you’ll see … It takes time,” Nomvethe said. “But anyway when things go right, you can say whatever you want. With what he says, he will end up being disappointed. He must know that the time will come when they will not do what they want as it is now. ”

Nomvethe added that while in other teams it becomes a problem when some players are injured or disqualified, but this is not the case at Sundowns because they have other players to choose from.

“There will be a time when they don’t win the league, and another club does … You have to remember one thing, that the Sundowns own nearly 75% of all good players in the league. Anyone on his team can play regularly on any other team and you can’t compare AmaZulu to Sundowns.

“Sunsets always have three competitive teams and they can change teams with no effect on the game. For us, we have this limitation with the players. When we get injuries and suspensions it’s a disaster, but they have enough quality players for them not to feel that pinch. That’s why it’s easy for them.

“Rulani doesn’t have to make it seem like they’re doing what they want (because they’re superior), it’s just their time, and when the time comes, things will change.”

Nomvethe is not the first coach to challenge Mokwena’s claims with Orlando Pirates’ Mandla Ncikazi also criticizing his claims.

Ncikazi went so far as to say that the Sundowns shop for their players at Woolworths while the other clubs shop at Pick ‘n Pay and Checkers.
