Strictly stars: the candidates for the Bafta on the big step for sign language

Strictly Come Dancing Rose stars Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice have been nominated for the Must-See Moment Bafta, a category voted for by the public.

During their ballroom dance to the rhythm of Symphony, the music died out for a few seconds as the couple danced in silence.

The EastEnders actor became the show’s first deaf contestant and brought attitudes towards disability into the spotlight.

As British Sign Language (BSL) will be legally recognized as a language, Rose and Giovanni visited the Frank Barnes School for Deaf Children in North London to celebrate their achievements.

You can tune in to watch the Virgin Media Bafta TV Awards 2022 on Sunday May 8 at 6pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
