Tesla will cover travel and accommodation expenses for employees to receive health services not offered in the states in which they reside.
The policy, which according to Tesla has been in effect since 2021, has been made public internally Impact report 2021 released Friday. Although the report does not mention the word “abortion”, the policy wording appears to include such a procedure.
According to the report, Tesla has offered since last year “An expanded safety net program and health insurance offering that includes travel and accommodation support for those who may need to seek health services that are not available in their state of. origin”.
The news comes as the Supreme Court seems ready to overturn Roe v. Wade, to protect the right to abortion in the United States, after Politico has published a draft opinion by the majority who would overturn the decades-old sentence if it became final.
Should Roe v. Wade be overturned, it will be up to individual states to determine access to abortion. Many states have already begun restricting access to abortions, and some states have so-called trigger laws that would further restrict access if Roe v. Wade be shot down.
The New York Times previously reported on Tesla’s policy and said it includes abortions. A Tesla spokesperson was not immediately available to provide comment.
Tesla is headquartered in Texas, where the state legislature has already made it difficult to access abortion services banning most after six weeks of pregnancy.
