“The lock screen becomes more personal, beautiful and useful with iOS 16,” Apple said.

‘With a new multi-layered effect, photo subjects are artfully placed in front of the time on the lock screen, creating a sense of depth.

What will Apple reveal at the event?

Apple traditionally uses WWDC to introduce new versions of the software that powers its most popular devices: iPhones, Apple Watches, iPads, and Mac computers.

But this year there were suggestions that a number of new products and updates could also be announced:

  • Apple glasses
  • iOS 16 / iPad OS 16
  • macOS 13
  • watchOS 9 / tvOS 16
  • MacBook Air

The lock screen update will launch with iOS 16, which is likely to launch next year.

Users can choose which widgets they want to display on the lock screen, replacing where the calendar is currently located.

For example, if your step count is more important to you, you can make sure you can see your step count in real time right from your lock screen.

In the meantime, if you like to see how much charge your AirPods have, you can add this widget.

“The lock screen features widgets that draw inspiration from the complications of Apple Watch, making it easy to get information at a glance, such as upcoming calendar events, weather, battery levels, alarms, time zones, activity ring progress, and more “, Apple said.

Users can also customize their own wallpaper in iOS 16.

‘A new Lock Screen gallery offers a range of options for inspiration, such as the Apple collections, which include Pride and Unity to celebrate special cultural moments; a weather background to see real-time weather conditions as they change throughout the day; and an astronomy backdrop for views of the Earth, the moon and the solar system, “Apple explained.

Users can simply hold different parts of the screen to customize the lock screen in iOS 16

‘Users can also create lock screens using their favorite emojis or color schemes. With multiple lock screens, users can switch between favorites with a single tap. ‘

Notifications have also been moved to the redesigned lock screen.

“Notifications have been redesigned to scroll from the bottom, ensuring users have a clear view of their personalized lock screen,” Apple explained.

Ben Wood, Chief Analyst at CCS Insight, said: “Many of Apple’s lock screen updates fill the gap with features already available on Android, but will be widely welcomed by notification-overloaded iPhone owners who want more information at. Glance.

“The screen lock tools Apple introduced to developers will lead to a flurry of app-related widgets appearing over the next twelve months.”
