The roof of the row houses collapses following a fire in Braddock

The roof atop a cluster of abandoned townhouses collapsed after it caught fire in Braddock on Thursday morning. The fire broke out shortly after 1.30am in the 200 block of Oliver Street. Firefighters have been on site for several hours. CJ Kaminsky, head of VFD Braddock, said the fire spread to another abandoned house behind the row houses. He said there is a story of people squatting there. Those houses will have to be demolished. “I was really worried about my neighbor,” said Harriet Jenkins, who lives nearby and was sleeping when the flames broke out. “My brother woke me up. He said everything was on fire down there.” There was no initial word on the cause of the fire.

No one was inside the terraced houses and there were no reports of injuries.
